Dante Fernandez

As you know by now my name is Dante, I am the creator of Soul Scholars. I call the Pacific Northwest my home [Oregon], for the geographically challenged – not by choice, but circumstance.  I am an aspiring chef and a graduate from Western Culinary Institute. I enjoy b-boying, art, music, and writing poetry. I have a lot of random tricks/skills “like speaking Japanese and memorizing music quickly.”  I try to live easy without stress or worries. I seek knowledge and truth, and I’m never content with whatever I’m working on. Aesthetically, anything I tweak is a direct reflection of my personality and tastes. Consider me an ever changing work in progress.

Anyways, hip-hop is my life! I find it to be a true way of expressing my soul/emotions and to relate with others. I love to b-boy, when I hear music my mind, body, and soul goes into overdrive. The rush I get from dancing is like none other.  B-boy Free told me “Let the music move you and it will help you flow through life.” And indeed it has.

Niko Catabay

My name is Niko Roman Catabay, I reside in Portland Oregon, born and raised. On the playground is where I spend most of my days. Centennial high school is where I’m at right now. Trying to go to PSU but not looking like I’m going to right now. Tryin to make it in life as a photographer, because I believe that pictures can tell 1000 stories. That’s how I want to live my ideal life, Bboy, and photography. I love to eat, and chill with my homies, it relaxes my mind. To just get away from life in an open scene makes me smile. My homies Chris, Sher, and Dante keep me alive all day. I Bboy for a living, no not to put food on the table, but to keep my heart beating, it’s my heart and soul to Bboy. If it wasn’t for hip hop I would be dead. Not literally, metaphorically. I would be a brain dead mop that follows where everyone is going. I wouldn’t have a life, no future, no past. I wouldn’t have anything to separate myself from others. To live happy is better than to live rich. It’s just a dead leaf.
